Making an impact

Posted on: October 31st, 2012 by teamlpac

I’m so excited to announce that Karen from Ohio has won the Olivia vacation package! Partnering with Olivia Travel to support the Washington United for Marriage campaign was amazing–because of your help we’re delivering $55,000 to the campaign today! With the elections less than a week away, we’re launching our Voter Guide, and it’s easy to see the huge impact LPAC has already made.

When we launched in July, we had a little more than a dream: to give lesbians a real and meaningful seat at the table. We got to work quickly. We connected with thousands of lesbians and allies across the country, we enlisted the best political strategists from the women’s and LGBT movements, and began our work. The next step is getting out the vote. But let’s take a moment to reflect on the awesome accomplishments of the last few months:

Since July, you and LPAC have raised over $650,000! With your help we’ve given over $200,000 to supportTammy Baldwin, who has a great shot at becoming the FIRST openly gay US Senator. With your help we’ve given nearly $100,000 to two important marriage equality fights in Maine and Washington. With your help we’ve contributed tens of thousands to fend off anti-choice attacks in Florida and support pro-LPAC Michigan Supreme Court candidates. With your help we’ve supported the President’s re-election, the protection of the pro-LPAC Democratic majority in the US Senate, and pro-LPAC US Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, Vermont Gov. Shumlin, US Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland, and Oregon state legislator Tina Kotek, who could make history this year by becoming the first openly lesbian speaker of any statehouse in the country.

That’s what I call making an impact. That’s what I call a seat at the table.

Help us keep up the momentum: VOTE! Our brand-new Voter Guide has everything you need to know to help us support the candidates on LPAC’s slate. We’ve also got a great tool that will help you find your polling place — share it all with your friends.

Let’s get out the vote! Go Team LPAC!

Marriage equality + win a free Olivia vacation!

Posted on: October 26th, 2012 by teamlpac

Awesome news. Two things. First, LPAC is officially extending our fundraising deadline for the Washington state marriage equality fight until midnight on Monday. Second…why? Because the wonderful women at Olivia are partnering with LPAC to give away an all-inclusive vacation!

The freedom to marry is under attack in Washington state. LPAC is proud to team up with Olivia to support the Washington United for Marriage campaign, working to preserve marriage equality at the ballot box. Make a donation today, support LPAC and protect marriage, and be automatically entered to win a spot for you and a guest on the 40th Anniversary Olivia Vacation. Don’t miss out!

Olivia is the travel company for lesbians, and the vacation is next May at the all-inclusive Club Med Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic. Entertainment includes Wanda Sykes, Suzanne Westenhofer, Toshi Reagon and more! If you haven’t given yet–or even if you have–donate $5 or more to support the freedom to marry in Washington and be automatically entered to win.

Here at LPAC we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to support this important campaign, and we’re grateful to have a lesbian-owned business like Olivia right alongside us.

Good luck, hope you win! -Sarah

Sign to stand with Washington

Posted on: October 23rd, 2012 by teamlpac

Thank you for the support that you’ve shown us throughout this election season. Since we launched our fundraising match challenge for Washington’s marriage equality campaign yesterday, our generous supporters like you have pitched in nearly $10,000–thank you! Only $15,000 to go to meet the LPAC board match. And we need your help on another thing: Will you ask 10 friends to sign and stand with Washington?

Our friends in Washington state have only 14 days between now and the election. Your contributions will help push them across the finish line. One more way to help is to get as many supporters on board as possible! That’s why we’re asking you to get your friends involved in LPAC’s work to help preserve marriage equality in Washington State.

Women were a major part of Washington’s marriage equality win earlier this year. The marriage equality bill was championed by Gov. Christine Gregorie, and Republican Rep. Maureen Walsh made headlines nationwide when she gave a heartfelt speech on the floor in support of her lesbian daughter and marriage equality. Watch the video of Rep. Walsh’s famous speech here, and ask  10 friends to get involved.

Watching Rep. Walsh’s speech again this morning only renewed my commitment to Washington state’s marriage equality fight. It’s time we all took a cue from Rep. Walsh, and stood up for marriage equality. Please commit to asking 10 friends to sign up hereor forward them this email and direct them to teamlpac.com/standwithWA

So glad to be in this together!

Guess how much $$ anti-gay NOM is pouring into Washington…

Posted on: October 22nd, 2012 by teamlpac

15 days. That’s how much time our friends in Washington State have to preserve marriage equality at the ballot box. Just 15 days to counter the extreme anti-gay right wing and its deep pockets.

LPAC has learned that the notoriously anti-gay National Organization for Marriage (NOM) just dumped another $400,000 towards defeating marriage equality in Washington — and are working to raise $3 million more. NOM just started their ad blitz Thursday — telling the same old lies and distortions designed to scare voters into voting against marriage equality. That’s why I’m all in for marriage equality in Washington. Are you?

What happens in Washington is important to me, and it’s important to LPAC. Earlier this year, we saw the Washington state legislature pass marriage equality. Strong women from both sides of the aisle made this a reality, from Republican Rep. Maureen Walsh’s impassioned “yes” vote speech, to Gov. Christine Gregorie’s signing of the bill. But then our anti-gay opponents put our newfound marriage equality on the ballot. And in 15 days, our freedom to marry is up for a popular vote.

LPAC can make a difference in Washington, and you can be a part of that.

Despite all these attacks from NOM, the Washington campaign is prepared, and they’re ready to counter the misleading ads — they just need our help. Click here to contribute before Wednesday, and each dollar you give will matched up to $25,000 by the LPAC Advisory Board.

Thanks for all that you do!

I Am LPAC

Posted on: October 15th, 2012 by teamlpac

One of my favorite things about LPAC–besides the change we are making for lesbians & our allies in politics–is YOU. You and our other supporters are what keeps me going, and it’s what keeps LPAC going. That’s why I’m asking you to join the LPAC movement by participating in I Am LPAC, our online visibility campaign!

Our I Am LPAC site features awesome videos, pictures, and great posters to print and take a photo with. One of my favorite posters is “I Stand for Equality. I AM LPAC.” Choose your favorite, print it out, post it on our Facebook page. Stand up and be counted, tell us why you are LPAC. Everything you need is up on iamlpac.com. It’s easy, check it out! You’ll also want to check out our videos from comedian Kate Clinton, musicians God-des & She, and more.

When the LPAC Advisory Board, including Urvashi Vaid, Laura Ricketts, and myself were talking about forming LPAC last year, we were most excited about building a movement. Be a part of the LPAC movement now! Show your support with I Am LPAC. Click here to show your LPAC love.

Historic.

Posted on: October 13th, 2012 by teamlpac

I’m going to say it: historic. Openly lesbian Tammy Baldwin’s run for U.S. Senate is historic. LPAC, as a first of its kind PAC focused on lesbians, is historic. And the amount of money you’ve helped us raise in a little over 48 hours for Tammy Baldwin? Also historic! Because of your help, we will be contributing another $100,000 in support of Tammy Baldwin! Coupled with our previous $112,000 contribution, this one of the biggest visible pro-lesbian contributions ever!

LPAC’s $212,000 contribution has already gone a long way in helping support Tammy Baldwin on critical TV ads in her district. Polling shows this race is close, but that winning can be in our reach. I’m so proud to do this work, and even prouder that you and thousands of other women and men, gay and straight, across the country, are doing this work with me and LPAC. Thank you!

We’ve also got another big announcement:

The LPAC Board recently voted to give donations to two very important Federal PACs:  the Majority PAC and Priorities USA Action.  The Majority PAC is fighting to protect the Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate, and is backing important LPAC candidates Tammy Baldwin and Elizabeth Warren. Priorities USA Action is the super PAC backing the reelection of President Obama. Both PACs are committed to the values of LPAC, including protecting women’s health, LGBT rights, and social and economic justice. This effort was supported by a generous donation to LPAC by Advisory Board Member Laura Ricketts.

And on Monday we’ll be launching an exciting online grassroots campaign I hope you’ll be a part of. I can’t wait!

Talk to you soon,
Sarah Schmidt
Chair, LPAC

19 hours left for Tammy! A special message from EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock

Posted on: October 11th, 2012 by teamlpac

EMILY’s List President & LPAC supporter Stephanie Schriock here. I’m taking the time to write to you because here at EMILY’s List we are so proud to be partnering with LPAC in our support of Tammy Baldwin! And I’m hoping you can help us with the LPAC Tammy Baldwin Challenge —only 19 hours left!

It’s incredible to partner with you and LPAC on our WOMEN VOTE! campaign for Tammy Baldwin. With your help, so far we’ve now aired hundreds of ads across the state, and are on the air right now. But we need your help again to make sure our pro-Tammy message is on the airwaves like a drumbeat between now and November 6th. Our partnership with LPAC and other progressive PACs is what helps us ensure that everyone out there on Team Tammy is strategic and thoughtful with their dollars. Being able to plug in support from LPAC has tremendously helped our WOMEN VOTE! Tammy Baldwin campaign.

But so far, Tammy’s opponent, Tommy Thompson, and his right wing millionaire friends, have spent over $10 million slamming Tammy on TV. They will continue to funnel millions of dollars into divisive anti-Tammy attack ads. $1.2 million this week, next week could be even more. This is really the last chance for us to make an impact for Tammy’s race.

LPAC is just 19 hours away from its deadline. In the past day you and other LPAC supporters across America have given an astounding $72,000 to take down anti-women, anti-gay Tommy Thompson, and make sure that Tammy Baldwin wins the race for US Senate. We’ve never needed your help more urgently. Your $20 donation is $40. Your $75 donation is $150. And your $1,000 donation is $2,000. You only have until tomorrow morning to help Tammy. Donate now.

So glad to be in this together!

48 hours to help Tammy Baldwin

Posted on: October 10th, 2012 by teamlpac

YOU did it! We couldn’t be prouder: because of you, we’ll be delivering $30,000 to the No On 6 campaign in Florida to stop anti-choice extremists in their tracks! There’s another important race that LPAC needs your help with:  Just this week, right wing groups behind Tammy Baldwin’s anti-women, anti-gay opponent Tommy Thompson will spend $1.2 million attacking Tammy. The attacks against Tammy won’t stop coming, they will intensify.

That’s why LPAC Board Members Laura Ricketts, Alix Ritchie, and I have a challenge for you and all of our supporters: give $50,000 in 48 hours, and we’ll match it. Thompson is anti-women. He’s anti-gay. And he and his right wing millionaire friends are attacking Tammy left and right. They’re buying up hours and hours of advertising in prime time, all across her district. Distorting the airwaves with inaccuracies about who Tammy is and what she’ll do.

Every dollar you give in the next 48 hours will be matched.

We were overwhelmed with positive support–and donations–when we announced our support Tammy Baldwin this August. Thanks to your generosity, LPAC has already contributed $112,000 in support of Tammy. The conversations we’ve had with supporters like you across the country have made it clear: time and time again, you want to do MORE to support Tammy Baldwin. With the right wing spending $1.2 million dollars just this week to make sure Tammy never makes it to office, she needs you now more than ever.

I don’t have to tell you how crucial Tammy Baldwin’s race is. You know it. Tammy’s got a great shot at being the first openly gay member of the US Senate. She’s an amazing politician who stands strong for LPAC’s values on women’s health, LGBT rights, social, racial, and economic justice. Simply put, Tammy’s win would be a national game-changer for lesbians and our allies. But she can’t win without our help.

I know we can do this together!!

Last chance

Posted on: October 9th, 2012 by teamlpac

It’s your last chance. As Florida-based LPAC Board Member Alix told you over the weekend, ALL of your donations to LPAC for the No On 6 campaign will be matched, up to $10k, until tonight at midnight! So far we have raised over $8,000, but we’re just $2,000 short of our match goal to support the critical work of No On 6 as they fight Florida’s anti-women, anti-choice, right wing extremists.

When one state passes anti-women measures like this, it gives anti-woman politicians in other states a roadmap for how to tear down our very personal, very important, reprodictive rights. We can’t let that happen. You and I can’t let Florida become another casuality in the war on women, and we’re not about to let similar dangerous measures creep their way across the country. Contribute now. Help No On 6 now. Do all that you can so when we wake up on November 7th, we aren’t wishing we gave just a little more to the hardworking women and men in Florida who are doing all they can to protect our rights.

We’re counting on you to help us get this done. I hope I can email everyone tomorrow morning and give you good news, that we’ve given a very generous gift to the No On 6 campaign. Please help me send that email! Think hard about how much you are willing to give to stand up to anti-women, anti-choice extremists and make sure that reproductive health protections already in place aren’t ripped away. Contribute $50, $135, $500, or more. This is your last chance to double your impact. Deadline: midnight tonight!

Thank you!

Phone bank for Florida!

Posted on: October 8th, 2012 by teamlpac

Great news! We have an amazing chance to make a real difference on Florida’s No On 6 campaign, fighting against an anti-woman, anti-choice ballot initiative. Are you ready to commit a few hours to the campaign next week?

The No On 6 campaign is holding a phone bank next week–a critical time to talk to supportive voters and get them to the polls. The best part about it? It’s a virtual, nationwide, phonebank spearheaded by the LGBT community. It’s the perfect opportunity to get involved with a campaign that frankly needs our financial support, but also needs our time. Click here to make a difference and sign up to No On 6’s LGBT phone bank, Thursday, October 18 from 5:30-9:00pm ET.

The deeply flawed Amendment 6, and legislation like it, is one reason I felt it was so critical that we form LPAC. LPAC is the first political action committee dedicated to BOTH women’s and LGBT rights. As a lesbian, for me these two things are intertwined, and there’s absolutely no question in my mind that LPAC supporters are ready to help the No On 6 campaign fend off vicious anti-woman attacks. Your commitment to this work is what keeps us going, so I really hope you can take the time out to help.

Once you RSVP for the phone bank, the No On 6 team will reach out to you and make sure you’re well-equipped to help do the important work of voter-to-voter contact next Thursday night. Before the dialing begins, you’ll get a comprehensive training. Again, you can participate from ANYWHERE, and as long as you have access to a phone and a computer for a few hours, you’ll be all set!

Let’s get on the phones and fight back!
