Lesbian Political Action Committee to back campaign for marriage equality

September 17, 2013—Today, LPAC, the first of its kind political action committee, announced the addition of the Illinois Unites for Marriage campaign to its 2013 slate.

“LPAC is proud to support Illinois Unites for Marriage, said LPAC Chair Sarah Schmidt. “As a values-based committee, LPAC works hard to support campaigns that champion issues that impact lesbians and our families. All loving and committed couples, whether they are gay, lesbian, or straight, should have the freedom to marry, and we stand strong with all of our allies here in my home state of Illinois to urge the General Assembly to pass  marriage equality this year. It’s time!”

Other campaigns on LPAC’s 2013 slate include Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s re-election and Terry McAuliffe’s bid for Governor of Virginia. Previously in 2013, LPAC supported Ed Markey for Congress in Massachusetts, and Chris Quinn for Mayor of New York City.

Last year, LPAC raised over $750,000 for candidates, ranging from U.S Senators Tammy Baldwin and Elizabeth Warren to ballot initiatives to protect reproductive rights in Florida and win marriage equality in Maine and Washington State.

LPAC is a political action committee dedicated to one goal: influencing elections by giving lesbians a meaningful seat at the political table. teamlpac.com
