This is not the message I wanted to send to my LPAC family today. This morning, we are still grappling with the sad truth that our country has elected a man who has used racism, bigotry, homophobia and misogyny to ascend to the highest office in America. Even worse, the Vice-President-Elect is easily one of the most anti-LGBT/anti-woman politicians in recent history and likely will have a strong voice in the next administration.
Right now, I’m grieving and it might take a while to get past that to the action stage. My sense is that you feel the same way.
As women, as LPAC, as Americans, we were so proud and honored to support Hillary Clinton and the ideals and values she represents. That support doesn’t end because of the outcome of this election. We will always be among those who are honored to say #ImWithHer. An election doesn’t change that.
What I can tell you is that we will get through this…together.
When you’re ready, LPAC will be here for you. This election made LPAC stronger because you and thousands like you came together to stand up against those who seek to tear us down. In the days, weeks and months ahead, we will work together to fight against the anti-woman, anti-LGBT, anti-social justice forces that will (for the time being) lead this country.
Here’s the one thing I want you to know today and in the days going forward:
LPAC is here for you.
If you are a woman, LPAC is here for you.
If you are a person who identifies as LGBTQ, LPAC is here for you.
If you are a person of color, LPAC is here for you.
If you are an immigrant of any status, LPAC is here for you.
If you are disabled, LPAC is here for you.
If you are our ally, LPAC is here for you.
We are here to support, listen and protect one another. When you’re ready, I hope you’ll take the next step with us.
Join us to fight racism, bigotry, and misogyny with a unified, clear and resolute message today and for all the days ahead: Love Trumps Hate. We cannot win without you by our side. And we must win.
Today, #StrongerTogether is not just a campaign slogan. It’s our rallying cry.
In solidarity and with love,
