LPAC STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF AHCA

Posted on: May 4th, 2017 by teamlpac

May 4, 2017 – Washington, DC – LPAC Executive Director Beth Shipp issued the following statement regarding the passage by the House of Representatives of the American Health Care Act:

“For LGBTQ women across America, today’s vote is truly appalling and dangerous. Our gender and our sexual orientation mean that LGBTQ women would face certain health care discrimination should Trumpcare become law. Many of us – up to one million LGBTQ Americans – will be part of the 24 million Americans who lose coverage. Most of us will see dramatic increases in costs. We are the community at the intersection of the populations that this bill harms — women, LGBTQ, and people of color; but, we will fight. We will not give up or give in. Our community has well-established a history of defeating oppression and overcoming adversity. And in the process, we intend to work to defeat as many of the 217 congressional representatives as possible who voted for Trumpcare.”

LPAC STATEMENT ON TRUMP/PENCE “RELIGIOUS FREEDOM” EXECUTIVE ORDER

Posted on: May 3rd, 2017 by teamlpac

Washington, DC (May 3, 2017) — LPAC’s Executive Director, Beth Shipp, issued the following statement in anticipation to President Trump’s pending “Religious Freedoms” Executive Order.

“Government-sanctioned discrimination is an affront to American values and a dangerous threat to marginalized communities, including women and LGBTQ Americans. As Donald Trump and Mike Pence orchestrate the execution of this disgusting and hateful executive order, they are legitimizing prejudice under the false pretense of religious freedom. I do not believe that freedom- loving Americans will tolerate or share Trump and Pence’s definition of freedom that would allow a hospital to deny medical treatment, a landlord to deny housing, or a company to terminate employment. This Administration’s actions today are a perversion of freedom and religion!

LPAC is committed to fighting this injustice; we will continue our work to elect more champions of equality and social justice. We will work to defeat politicians who stand in support of these appalling and fundamentally un-American actions.”
