LPAC ENDORSES RE-ELECTION OF JACKIE BISKUPSKI AS MAYOR OF SALT LAKE CITY

Washington, DC (March 11, 2019) — LPAC, the only organization dedicated to building the political voice of LGBTQ women, announced today the endorsement of Jackie Biskupski for mayor of Salt Lake City, UT. LPAC previously endorsed Biskupski, the race incumbent and the first openly gay elected official in Utah, for the 2015 election that saw her into office.

“Endorsing Jackie Biskupski in her bid for reelection was a total no-brainer,” said LPAC Executive Director Stephanie Sandberg. “Her progressive priorities fully align with LPAC’s values of pushing for a nation of LGBTQ equality, women’s equality, and social justice, and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes in her second term.”

Biskupski’s platform prioritizes creating equity for Salt Lake City residents through shifts in affordable housing, transit, and employment — the city passed its first affordable housing plan in over two decades under her leadership last year. She has also focused on environmental stewardship and public safety, and focused publicly on LGBTQ equality and acceptance, most recently in her 2019 state of the city address.

Biskupski is LPAC’s fifth mayoral endorsement of 2019 following Lori Lightfoot in Chicago, IL, Satya Rhodes-Conway in Madison, WI, Jane Castor in Tampa, FL, and Jolie Justus in Kansas City, MO.

“Leadership and change nationwide starts by building the bench of exceptional local leaders,” Sandberg said. “We are thrilled to throw our support behind such an impressive slate of queer women creating positive change in their communities.”
