Giona Picheco is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a sociology teacher, and a community advocate. Picheco is challenging incumbent Democrat Charlene Lima. She previously ran for this seat in 2022.

If elected, she would be the first openly trans state legislator ever elected in Rhode Island.
