Sheena Barnes

School Board President Sheena Barnes is a Democrat running for re-election to the Toledo Public Schools Board of Education. She was first elected in 2019.

Barnes was inspired to run for the school board in 2019 after being an active parent in the district for many years. While on the Board she has been a consistent advocate for LGBTQ students and students of color, has worked to better relationships between the Board and teachers, and has put a particular focus on reducing gun violence and addressing its effects among students.

Her priorities this election cycle are school safety, addressing gun violence, protecting students from “hate and harm,” and providing equitable funding among schools.
