LPAC & Other National LGBTQ Organizations Endorse Becca Balint
LPAC, Equality PAC, and LGBTQ Victory join fight to elect Vermont’s first LGBTQ representative
Burlington, VT (January 25, 2022) — Today, LPAC, Equality PAC, and LGBTQ Victory Fund announced their joint endorsement of Vermont State Senate President Tem Becca Balint in her run for Congress. If elected, Balint would be both the first woman and the first openly LGBTQ Member of Congress ever elected from Vermont.
These major national endorsements are a sign of growing momentum for Balint, following news last week that over 400 Vermont leaders endorsed her campaign, including 37 current and former state legislators. The full list of those endorsers can be found here.
The leaders of LPAC, Equality PAC, and LGBTQ Victory Fund released the following statement: “Throughout Becca’s time in the Vermont State Senate, where she has served as both Senate Majority Leader and President Pro Tem, Becca has been a tried and true, steadfast progressive voice, advocating for investments in affordable housing, ensuring a livable wage, and standing on the side of equality for all Vermonters. This November, Vermont voters have the chance to make history by electing a woman to Congress for the first time – but not just any woman. Vermonters can elect someone who has dedicated her life to service to her neighbors, constituents, and state – and with a proven track record of delivering real results. Becca is that candidate and that woman. Her voice and perspective is desperately needed in Congress – and she will hit the ground running to join Senator Bernie Sanders and soon-to-be Senator Peter Welch as we continue the fight to advance equality and to make sure that every person – no matter what they look like, where they come from, or who they love – has the tools, support, and opportunity to realize the American Dream.”
"I am so grateful for the incredible support of three powerhouse organizations in the movement for LGBTQ equality," said Becca Balint, Democratic candidate for Congress. "For years, LPAC, Equality PAC, and LGBTQ Victory Fund have been on the forefront of changing the face of our government. Their leadership has brought the LGBTQ community unprecedented levels of representation in Congress and across our politics. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside them to deliver on our shared priorities, and know that their support for our campaign will be critical to our success. Through courage, kindness, and authentic leadership, we will create a world that is safer, more inclusive, and more just."
LPAC is dedicated to building diverse political representation by increasing the number of LGBTQ women in elected office. LPAC endorses and invests in LGBTQ women up and down the ballot who champion the organization's core values of women's rights, LGBTQ equality, and social justice.
Equality PAC is the political arm of the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus and is dedicated to full legal and societal equality for LGBTQ Americans. All funds raised into Equality PAC are spent supporting and electing openly LGBTQ individuals and strong LGBTQ allies to the United States Congress who are committed to passing the Equality ACT and to ensuring full civil rights and protections for all LGBTQ Americans.
LGBTQ Victory Fund works to achieve and sustain equality by increasing the number of openly LGBTQ elected officials at all levels of government while ensuring they reflect the diversity of those they serve.
Becca Balint is a teacher, mother, activist and elected official who believes that, even with the challenges of today, we cannot back away from fighting for each other. Becca was first elected to the Vermont State Senate in 2014, later becoming Senate Majority leader and, now, the first woman and first openly gay person to serve as President Pro Tempore. In the State Senate, Becca has led the charge to invest in affordable housing, raise the minimum wage, secure paid family leave, enshrine reproductive freedom into our state's constitution, and so much more. She is running in the August 9, 2022 primary for Congress to deliver on Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and racial, economic, and housing justice. You can read more about Becca’s campaign here.
