LPAC Celebrates Senate Block of Trans Athlete Ban

March 4, 2025 — Today, LPAC responded to news that The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act failed to advance in the Senate yesterday, with all Democrats voting against the bill. The bill cleared the House in January on an almost entirely party-line vote.

“LPAC celebrates the news that a federal ban on trans women in sports has been blocked in the Senate,” said Janelle Perez, Executive Director of LPAC. “Data from medical and scientific experts is clear: trans women do not have an inherent advantage in sport. This is yet another attempt by the opposition to scapegoat and erase trans women, without taking a single action to address real, documented threats to girls and women's sports, including sexual abuse and a lack of funding.

Before the NCAA banned all trans athletes, there were estimated to be less than 10 across the country. This attack on a handful of trans kids is simply a distraction from real challenges Americans are facing, and a cruel one at that.

I urge sports governing boards to take decisive action in addressing the systemic inequalities women face in sports, including pay disparity, lack of investment, and limited leadership opportunities. By prioritizing equal resources, media coverage, and protections against harassment, we can create a more just and inclusive future for all female athletes.”
