Mary L. Trump Joins the Board of Directors of LPAC
Washington, DC – LPAC, the national political organization dedicated to electing more LGBTQ women to public office, announced today that noted author and activist Mary L. Trump has joined its Board of Directors.
LPAC is the only organization in the US whose mission is to build the political power of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer women, and was founded in 2012 by LGBTQ women. LPAC endorses and invests in candidates directly and supports them through independent expenditure campaigns. The Committee has raised more than $6.3 million and endorsed more than 150 candidates. LPAC’s focus is on electing candidates – LGBTQ women – who share our values: LGBTQ and women’s equality, women’s reproductive health, and social justice, while helping coalesce LGBTQ women as a concrete and powerful political demographic.
“Mary Trump has demonstrated thought leadership, media and political savvy over the last year as she has stormed the country with her insights and opinions. We couldn’t be more excited to have her join us in building the power of our political action community and developing the next generation of LGBTQ women leaders,” said Laura Ricketts, LPAC Board Chair.
“We will only create lasting and systemic change for progressive values if we increase the number of diverse players in power, and that includes LGBTQ women,” said Mary Trump. “I am so excited to work with LPAC to create more opportunity for these new leaders and to build alliances with other progressives across the country.”
“LPAC has an ambitious agenda for the next election cycle. We can’t afford to accept the status quo,” said Lisa Turner, Executive Director of LPAC. “We must organize across the country and develop new leaders to walk the corridors of power. That is our core mission. We are thrilled to have Mary’s help in doing so and invite all who are interested to join our effort.”
About Mary Trump:
In her first book, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, wrote a definitive portrait of Donald Trump that shone a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who threatened – and continues to threaten—the nation’s health, security, and social fabric.
As a result of the book’s public and critical acclaim (it notably sold over a million copies on its first day of publication—more than Donald Trump’s Art of the Deal has sold in over 30 years), Mary became a powerful voice during the 2020 election among those seeking to change the direction of our country. Her success in media appearances and social media extended far beyond her unique insights into Donald Trump. She has become a leader among progressives across the country seeking more diversity in the halls of power and more equity and inclusion in all aspects of society. She leads with a unique perspective on the impact of these changes on the mental health of communities most in need.
Mary is now working on her second book, “The Reckoning,” about the trauma this country has suffered over the four years Donald Trump was in the Oval Office, how the damage inflicted by him and those who share his beliefs has been rooted in our history and how we must work together to heal our trauma. Her publisher noted that Mary is “uniquely positioned … to make sense of the consequences of our living through what could be the greatest mental health crisis we have ever experienced as a nation.
Mary L. Trump holds a PhD from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies and taught graduate courses in trauma, psychopathology, and developmental psychology.
