LPAC Announces 4 new endorsements for 2020
At Home, U.S. (May 29, 2020) – LPAC, the only organization dedicated to building LGBTQ women’s political voice, announces its updated slate of 2020 endorsements, an impressive group of LGBTQ women and gender non-conforming candidates running for national and state-level seats. See our full list of current endorsees here.
The new endorsed candidates are: Kathy Ellis (U.S. House, MO-8), State Sen. Liz Stefanics (NM State Senate), State Rep. Charlotte Warren (ME State House), and Wick Thomas (MO State House).
“The march toward November continues, and as we've watched this president, in particular, stoke fear and divisiveness, the stakes couldn’t be higher,” said Stephanie Sandberg, LPAC’s executive director. “We are proud to further bolster our 2020 slate with these four candidates, whose progressive views are what this nation needs to move forward.”
For the US House
Kathy Ellis (U.S. House, MO-8)
Kathy Ellis is a Democrat running for election to the U.S. House in Missouri’s 8th Congressional district challenging the incumbent Republican. She has not previously held elected office and was the Democratic nominee for this seat in 2018. This cycle Ellis’s campaign is focusing on disparities in healthcare during the pandemic, promoting unions and workers’ rights, and a new deal for rural America.
For state-level seats
State Sen. Liz Stefanics (NM State Senate)
Liz Stefanics is running for re-election to the New Mexico State Senate for the 39th District. She was elected in 2016, and previously held the seat from 1993-1996. She was the first openly LGBTQ person elected to the New Mexico legislature. Her priorities are affordable healthcare, fair pay, and water and land protections. In the legislature she has also been a prominent advocate of women’s reproductive rights and LGBTQ rights.
State Rep. Charlotte Warren (ME State House)
Charlotte Warren is running for re-election to the Maine House of Representatives for the 84th district. She was first elected in 2014 and is running for her fourth term (she will be term limited following this election). She previously was a member of the City Council and later Mayor of Hallowell, ME. She is a consultant and adjunct professor at the University of New England Graduate School of Social Work.
Wick Thomas (MO State House)
Wick Thomas is running for election to the Missouri House of Representatives for the 19th District. Thomas is a longtime Democratic activist and advocate for LGBTQ -- and in particular trans -- issues. They were inspired to run when a number of anti-trans bills were introduced in the last legislative session and the incumbent Democrat did not speak out. Thomas works with the Kansas City Public Library. Their priorities are healthcare, providing protections for the LGBTQ community, and women’s rights.
