Lisa Grafstein

Lisa Grafstein is a Democrat running for re-election to the North Carolina State Senate.

Grafstein is a civil rights lawyer and has been an activist and leader in her community for many years. Grafstein was first elected in 2022, beating a Republican for an open seat with 62 percent of the vote and becoming the only out LGBTQ member of the State Senate.

Grafstein was targeted by Republicans during redistricting and was drawn into a district with another Democratic State Senator. Grafstein moved into an adjacent district with an open seat to avoid challenging another Democrat. While her old district was solidly Democrat, Grafstein’s new district is a competitive D+1 seat in southern Wake County that will be a frontline defense seat for the Senate Democratic Caucus.
